    Rapid Rooting Powder

     Aurora Stevens (51), AUS

I purchased this to propagate houseplants and I loved it! I used this for rooting from a stem cutting as I was trying to grow Chinese evergreen and pothos for my indoor garden. What I did was dipped the base of the cutting into the rooting powder and placed it into moist soil in a spot with indirect sunlight and it worked! This is great for propagating indoor plants.

I read that using rooting hormones to propagate plant cuttings increases the success rate. So I bought this. Works as described! I used this for the double dip method and the root system developed fast! This rooting powder is great for plant cloning and can also work in conjunction with some gel. Highly recommended!

I had success with this rapid rooting powder. I used the dipping method on stem and leaf cuttings and it worked on all of my plants. The rooting powder delivers a robust root system. Just make sure not to place the cuttings in direct sunlight.

Rooting hormone, also known as rooting powder, is commonly used to speed up the root growth on plant cuttings. Using a rooting hormone to propagate cuttings increases the success rate of plant propagation.

    Going Back to its Roots

Originally trademarked as Hormodin, this rooting compound was first tested in the laboratories of Percy Zimmerman and Alfred Hitchcock at the Boyce Thompson Institute (BTI) in the 1930s.

In their 1935 paper, Zimmerman and Hitchcock reported that they discovered the ability of Hormodin to mimic auxin, a plant growth hormone that plays a crucial role in cell growth and regeneration and root and stem tropisms.

The duo stated, “As a result of an exhaustive investigation of the effects of various types of growth substances on plants, we have discovered that certain organic compounds exercise a pronounced stimulating effect on root-growth, and are highly valuable in promoting and inducing root-growth on plant slips or cuttings.”

The discovery was patented by BTI and the production license was obtained by Merck & Co. Although the patent is now expired, Hormodin, also known for its chemical name Indole-3-butyric Acid or IBA, is still widely used as the active ingredient in multiple gardening products.

The Root Regulators Used in the Rapid Rooting Powder

The Rapid Rooting Powder's formula contains naphthalene acetic acid (sodium), indole acetic acid, and indole butyric acid (potassium), naphthoxyacetic acid, phenol compounds, and other root growth stimulators.

Naphthalene acetic acid or NAA is a synthetic plant hormone in the auxin family. This rooting agent is used for soaking seeds, cuttings, and roots and increasing the number of taproots.

Indole acetic acid or IAA, is a plant hormone that plays an important role in both root and shoot development. It accelerates and increases the production of adventitious roots.

Indole butyric acid is a substance used on many crops and ornamentals. Its key roles in root development include extending the active growing period of fibrous roots and supporting the formation of adventitious roots. It also functions as a regulator of root apical meristem size and root hair elongation.

The Rapid Rooting Powder stimulates root development on cuttings and encourages uniform root growth, resulting in healthy, well-rooted new plants.

The Rapid Rooting Powder has been proven to:

    • Effectively propagate plants using an easy solution
    • Provide the fastest way to root new plants from cuttings
    • Help prevent root rot and sagging cuttings for stronger roots and transplant success of all plant varieties. It can be used to propagate varieties including roses, hydrangeas, succulents, gardenias, rhododendrons, and azaleas.
    • Work great with rock wool, coco, peat moss, soil, and all other grow mediums
    • Use only premium ingredients and contain 100% organic, non-toxic, eco-friendly, and safe formulation

Astonishing Research Data & Result Reports

A study on the effect of rooting hormones on the rooting capability of Ficus benjamina L. cuttings uploaded by Osman Topaçoğlu, Doctor of Philosophy in the Department of Forestry in Kastamonu Üniversitesi, revealed that exposure to rooting hormones such as IBA, NAA, and IAA greatly contributes to the success of rooting development of stem cuttings.

The study involves using a new method to mass produce plants, and 39 different treatments were carried out and tested. The rooting trials conducted on stem cuttings exposed to low concentration of hormones reported that the highest rooting ratio were obtained for 10 ppm of NAA (94.43%) and 100 ppm of IBA (93.9%).

An article published by the Michigan State University Extension stated, "Rooting compounds aid in rooting of moderate to difficult-to-root species, accelerate root initiation, improve rooting uniformity, increase the number of roots produced and reduce shrink and rooting time."

    W. Garrett Owen of MSU Extension and Roberto Lopez of MSU Department of Horticulture added that when application of rooting compounds that come in liquid or powder form is combined with cultural practices and optimal environmental conditions, it results in quality, well-rooted liners.

A newbie gardener’s experience with the Rapid Rooting Powder

Indoor gardening just became a hobby of mine months ago and I really enjoy it. I've been reading stuff about it and recently learned the technique of propagating plants and that rooting hormone can contribute to the speedy growth. So I bought this rapid rooting powder. - Anna Gordon, UK

    Week 1:

I found this product tricky to use the first time. So I followed the instructions carefully as I read that incorrect use can kill cuttings and plants. I dip the base of the cutting into the powder and gently shake to remove excess. And this works as described. Very ideal for a casual gardener or houseplant enthusiast like me.

    Week 2:

I finally learned the right concentration that'll work for my cuttings. I dissolved another packet of this powdered rooting hormone and filled a standard plastic container with 1.25 oz of the product and used it as a spray once a week, as stated on the instructions. The plants in my little indoor garden look really healthy.

    Week 3:

I found that the rapid rooting powder works for both soil and water propagation and is potent enough to accelerate root growth. I'm very impressed with this product and will definitely repurchase it in the near future.

    How to Use:

    • Dissolve one pack of powder in 1-2 liters of water. Take your plant cutting and dip the cut end into the solution for 1-2 hours.
    • To stimulate plant growth, dissolve another packet of the powder in 10 liters of water and spray onto the plant once a week until roots are well established.
    • For irrigation use: Dissolve one pack of powder in 2 liters of water and irrigate every 2 months.
    • For germination: Dissolve one pack of powder with 4-5 liters of water and submerge the seed for 6-8 hours. Remove and rinse the seed.
